Louny in the year 1869
(lithography Vácha, Prague)
History of town Louny
Louny - old royal town, found after the first half of 13th century on the important business road from the Bohemia to the Saxony. The town of Louny supported largely the Hussitism in the north-west Bohemia in 15th century and it fortified significantly its power and economical position in the region. The town has been largely damaged during the thirty years old war and it was still convalecenting form its damages in the beginning of the 18th century. The new economical and political development begins after the half of the 19th century and it continues to the 20th century. A lot of historically valuable monuments is preserved in the town. The most significant is St. Nicolas cathedral and the town fortification with Žatec gate.
